About Us

A dedicated, experienced and professional staff committed to serving our area.

KDIX radio provides the residents of Dickinson and the surrounding communities with news and information to help them stay informed.  They do this by providing local, regional and national news as well as play by play broadcasts of area athletic teams and rodeo reports.  Additionally KDIX keeps listeners informed of important economical information that impacts our area including daily livestock and grain reports.

Mike Renner
Sales Manager  
Farm Director

 

Mike started at KDIX in the spring of 2000 and quickly grew into a key employee because of his versatility and positive attitude.  He currently serves as sales manager/farm director.  He grew up on a farm near Richardton; the knowledge he gained on the family farm benefits him in his duties as Farm Director and related rodeo reporting.  Mike has received numerous local honors and service awards.

​

Mike has a deep fund of knowledge in many areas and is kind of like a Swiss army knife at KDIX.  Prior to his employment at KDIX, he was a former manager of the Dickinson Knights of Columbus Club and Dickinson Charities Bingo.  Mike and his wife Cindy raised two daughters, Kaitlyn and Kirsta, who are KDIX listeners.  Mike's hobbies include hunting, fishing, trouble shooting and solving complex problems.  He can be reached at:

Jackie Martin
Sales & Bookkeeper/Clerk

Jackie is native of Southwest ND; she grew up in Gladstone and graduated from Dickinson High School in 1971.  After high school she began her long career of service with the Dickinson Police Department.  After thirty-two years on the force, she retired in 2004.  After her law enforcement service she began working at KDIX in sales.  She now has almost twenty years of sales and marketing experience.  

​

In addition to her main sales and marketing duties, Jackie serves as an on-air announcer each Friday morning. Jackie also contributes to the operation of KDIX by providing bookkeeping & clerking services.

​

In her spare time, Jackie likes to read, garden and travel.  Jackie can be reached at:

Rod Kleinjan
Program Director
Sports Director

Rod was born Elgin, North Dakota, attended school in Mott and graduated from Mott High School in 1972.  He then began in radio broadcasting career at KBJM in Lemmon, South Dakota in 1972. Rod then attended Dickinson State College in 1973 & 74 prior to starting at KDIX Radio and Television in 1974 as the News and Sports Director.

​

Rod has been responsible for developing a large sports listenership for KDIX.  In a case of dueling titles, Rod is known as the Rocket, the Sports Voice of Dickinson State University and the Wheeler-Dealer.  He is a member of both the North Dakota and National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Associations.  He is a past president of the NDAPSSA and the Blue Hawk Boosters and presently serves as a booster board of director.

 

For his excellence in broadcasting, Rod has received the North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year award five times, the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Award of Merit and the Blue Hawk Boosters Loyalty Award.  Rod is also a north Dakota Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Famer.

​

Rod and his wife Amy (Klug) Kleinjan raised two children, Kayla Rae and Trent James as well as a grandchildren, Jaden Harmony, Emma and Evan.

Director of Security

Ms. Tweety VanWatchcat comes to KDIX after a distinguished career in special operations. During the course of her special ops career, she used up four of her nine lives.  She appreciates the more laid back nature of her position at KDIX.  

​

Tweety is responsible for safeguarding KDIX personnel, KDIX high tech equipment and keeping the building secure at all times. She regularly checks, windows, doors and entrances to the station to make sure they are secure.  She consistently deters admittance of unauthorized persons to the KDIX premise.  

​

When her primary job duties are taken care of, Tweety reaches out and establishes positive relationships with clients and visitors to KDIX. Additionally, she keeps a watchful eye out for tripping, slipping or fire hazards; when hazards are noted, Tweety initiates corrective action. Ms. Tweety is a highly valued employee at KDIX.  In her dreams, she can be reached at

Jim Dahl
Business Manager

Jim was born and raised in Dickinson.  He graduated from Dickinson High School and then attended Dickinson State University where he earned two bachelor's degrees.  He began his broadcasting career at KDIX in August of 1986.  

​

Jim currently serves as the KDIX Business Manager, Assistant Sports Director and PSA Director. For the past 35 plus years, Jim has been working in tandem with Rod Kleinjan covering sports in Southwest ND. Together the duo provides the area with play-by-play broadcasts, sports commentary as well as interviews with coaches and athletes.

​

Jim has received the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Award of Merit.  He is the youngest of three children of Clarence and Joanne Dahl of Dickinson.  Jim can be reached at:

Darlene Leiss
Director of Operations/Owner

Darlene is the owner of KDIX and directs it's operation.  She has been around the radio industry and served, on and off, in a variety of capacities since 1963- that's 60 years and counting. In addition to KDIX, Darlene was a co-owner of KDRG in Deer Lodge,  Montana.  Lee Leiss, her late husband, was a co-owner with Darlene of both KDIX and KDRG.

​

Darlene collaborates and consults with her veteran and experienced staff to keep KDIX humming along and serving Dickinson and Southwest North Dakota.

​

Darlene has three adult children, six grandchildren and will soon have a great grandchild. Darlene can be reached at:
